The Hutchins Gallery began as the the John Dixon Library, which opened in 1931 and is a significant part of the overall Gruss Center for the Art and Design Center on the historic Campus. The Hutchins Gallery project was a follow-up project to the main building project, The Gruss Center for the Arts, a $11.0 million S.T.E.A.M project for the School. The Center’s Hutchins Galleries project encompassed a comprehensive renovation to Galleries and the creation of climate-controlled storage space for the School’s extensive fine art collection. On the interior the work included new mechanical, and electrical and lighting systems and fixtures as well as new plaster and finishes. On the exterior the building was improved to address thermal and moisture conditions.
